Vartsikhe 2005, LLC (“Vartsikhe”) is a Georgia-based hydroelectric plant that provides power to affiliated Georgian Manganese’s Chiatura Manganese Mine (“Chiatura”), a manganese ore mining operation, and Zestafoni Ferroalloy Plant (“Zestafoni”), a silicomanganese processing plant. Together, the three entities make up GAA’s Georgian holdings.

Situated in the Imereti region of Georgia, where the Rioni, Kvirila, Khanistskali, Tsablaristskali and Tskaltsitela rivers flow, Vartsikhe is conviently located in proximity to Chiatura and Zestafoni. Originally constructed in 1972, Vartsikhe has undergone numerous upgrades and today is comprised of four hydropower plants, each containing two hydro generators with maximum capacities of 23 megawatts. Vartsikhe is capable of producing approximately 800,000 megawatts of energy a year.

Over the past several years, Vartsike injected a considerable amount of time and resources to improve the plant’s operating efficiencies. As a result, Vartsikhe is the strongest it has ever been and will continue to be a driving force powering Georgia’s lucrative ferroalloys industry.
